Parental Support & Guidance

Parental Support & Guidance

Parents (loved one), since you have found me, I already know you have concerns. Helping your child, teenager, or young-adult daughter with body image issues and food challenges can be an intimidating task. You may feel as though whatever you do is neither working nor good enough. For most parents, the thought of being helpless can be so frustrating and scary. I, too, am a parent and would do just about anything to help my son. This is why I knew I needed to also offer support to parents early on in my coaching practice.

I am here to help you with resources, tools, an understanding of different eating disorder treatment options, finding potential funding and with what to say when she says, “____ (fill in the blank).”

Eating Disorders do not discriminate! However, our daughters, five years old to twenty-five years old, are the most vulnerable to the environment in which we live due to the messages shadowing food and body. This is why I am a coach and want to help your daughter and you.

Our diet-fueled, thin-obsessed, and surface-driven culture, body dissatisfaction and disordered relationships with food continue to produce stunning and alarming statistics. We are bombarded with mixed messages regarding nutrition, coupled with the false belief that exercise equals punishment: constantly being told that we must fix ourselves to be beautiful, accepted, loved, and successful. The problem is that this pursuit is endless, the target is fiction, making the beauty and weight loss industry hundreds of millions of dollars a year. Yet obesity and eating disorders are at an all-time high. So, something is not working and very wrong! I tend to be an optimist and do not believe the beauty or diet industry is out to harm people just to make a buck. I also do not believe there is anything wrong with wanting to feel and look your best. What I do believe, however, is that we can do a much better job of raising our consciousness, grounding ourselves in what is most important and celebrating what is within.

  • Thank you, Sarah. I had this profound feeling of acceptance from our sessions. Acceptance of my body image, acceptance of eating habits, and acceptance of my feelings when I feel them. That is what I took away. I’m looking at food in a whole new light. I appreciate you helping with that mindset!!!

  • "My daughter got to meet with her recovery coach, Sarah Lee, only a handful of times before needing to be hospitalized for anorexia.  Prior to the hospitalization, Sarah worked closely with my daughter's PCP and therapist, and upon my daughter's admittance to the hospital, Sarah was an invaluable resource for the team, sharing her insights and information. For me personally, Sarah was instrumental in helping me come to terms with the urgency of my daughter's state, which I am certain saved her life. As openings in programs were scarce and our insurance was not accepted widely, Sarah put in many hours reaching out to and connecting me with professionals at eating disorder treatment facilities until we found one that could take my daughter...Continue Reading

  • "It’s hard to think where I would be right now if I hadn’t met my Sarah. As a more introverted person, I never once felt uncomfortable during my sessions and it was like a sense of freedom that I had nowhere else. Sarah showed me steps on how I could aim higher for recovery, it really helped me understand truly what an eating disorder was, and how I could beat it. It’s something I’m so grateful for."
